Merry Christmas!

Christmas message from Aircraft Aviation in Europe

Another great year has almost come to an end. Another great year seeing the world outside Europe, amazing aircraft photography, and attending international airshows I can't believe we are coming to 2019 less an a week. I like to thank everyone for support on my social media pages & meeting new people from parts of the world from Malta, The Netherlands, UK, Republic of China, and Japan.

Before the New Year of 2018, I felt sick during Christmas of 2017 with limited aviation photography I was suffering Aussie flu in Christmas Eve 4 days before my flight back to Malta. After Boxing Day still no sign of improvements so I decided to risk it & travel while I was slowly improving my health from my local chemist. During the final days of 2017 in Malta, I was only limited of aviation photography until 2nd January 2018 I was improved & yes I went to celebrate with my friends in Valletta, Malta. After that it was my 27th birthday in late January so I decided to visit Amsterdam, The Netherlands in early February for couple of days where I also did aviation photography in subzero temperatures it was difficult taking photos with gloves even without them my hands was turning ice! I barely stay by the airfield for 2 hours then I'm off to visit the city during my stay. In general I do prefer spotting in the cold than in the Summer.

From Easter Holidays, June & July I went back to Malta again it went good especially in the Summer period as the temperatures went sky high to 33 & 36 degrees I rather not do much of aviation photography even staying on the shade at the spotting area. After Malta was done I took a day trip to Farnborough International Airshow 2018 it was pretty good although to me it's pretty much similar aerobatic paths like 2016 with same aircraft apart from Airbus A350-1000 as last time was Airbus A380. In August went on a 2 day trip to Bournemouth, UK for Bournemouth Air Festival 2018 at the beach near the pier only seeing the Red Arrows which is the best aircraft in Britain by the RAF.

In September I went Asia & visited two Asian countries in Republic of China "Taiwan" and Japan. I was in Republic of China in Taipei twice because I had two layovers inbound & outbound from London Gatwick, UK before heading to Tokyo Narita, Japan as my final destination & vice versa. Aviation in Japan is like heaven for spotters or visitors with family at the observation deck. Japan is a highly recommended place for aviation enthusiasts.

During May & late October 2018 I've visited London City, UK for short visit for aviation photography truth is, I went to London MCM "Comic Con" it was located by the airport. May was for landing shots only it turned out fantastic! October the same thing.

And finally we've come to my final flight of 2018 returning back to next Malta for the New Year of 2019 this Sunday. When 2019 comes, UK will be leaving the European Union in March 29th with flights will be grounded until further notice this also includes ferries & trains for the Eurostar & Channel Tunnel. It's too early to explain on future travel movement after Brexit so we have to keep our eyes posted.

As we have one day left till Christmas Day, on behalf of Aircraft Aviation in Europe, we like to thank you for all your like's & support on social media. And we like to wish you a all very Merry Christmas "il-Milied it-tajjeb" and a Happy New Year of 2019.

Merry Christmas!

See you in 2019

London Gatwick, UK travel disruption 20th December 2018

With five days left till Christmas, passengers arriving & departing UK's second busiest airport London Gatwick is grounded due to drones flew over the airfield last night and this morning. The police are currently on the hunt on the drone pilot & the owner for flying it over the illegal airfield that's not prohibited by law.

Passengers who have their flights booked leaving the UK will have their flights delayed & cancellations until further notice. Flights inbound to London Gatwick have been diverted to London Heathrow, London Luton, London Stansted and Birmingham. Also other diversions is extended to Paris Charles de Gaulle, France and Amsterdam, The Netherlands until London Gatwick is opened. Airliners can offer customers for transporting to another flight at anther airport depending how many seats are available, claim compensation and offer a hotel stay till more information for future flights.

It might take days for the airport to recover on such horrific incident to all it's customers who are travelling over the Christmas Holidays but safety is the number one priority.

You can keep up to date on London Gatwick's social media sites for any update when the airport will resume and please contact your airline if your flights is & might be disrupted

Top 10 aircraft shots for 2018

This year has been crazy when I traveled into the continent and half way across the world it has been insane. As Aviation in the UK will be a major impact because of Brexit, 2019 will be a major impact. Enough for that, lets take a look at my Top 10 aviation shots I took in 2018. Before we begin, I'm excluding New Years Eve 2018 because I'll be going away for the New Year even though I'll be spotting.

10:  Golden Airbus vs Boeing approach
Taken 4th July 2018.
Two aircraft at one with Norwegian Air Shuttle on final approach with Hi Fly Malta Airbus A380 did a little sharp turn visual approach to Malta runway 13 from Singapore via Abu Dhabi, UAE. Ths was during the Maltese sunset in the Summer evening for a repaint before heading to Farnborough, UK.

9: Dive Reds Dive!
RAF Red Arrows taken 30th August 2018.
This years Bournemouth Air Festival was fantastic because of the outstanding British Summer it had and perfect day for the Red Arrows flying over Bournemouth Pier & across the beach.

7: The new A350-1000
Airbus Industries F-WLXV Airbus A350-1000 taken 22nd July 2018.
As Airbus launched their brand new version of the Airbus A350-1000, this prototype at Farborough International Airshow 2018 was doing an air display and what airlines will be flying in UK airspace including orders for British Airways. Qatar Airways has already launched their 1000 aircraft, we're looking foward to see more of these in the future. This is photo is my favorite because of the sharp turn on the right track,

6: Good morning or afternoon Asia
Taken in the Chinese Airspace 6th September 2018.
As I've woken up from the Indian Airspace in early September, just a sneak peak I was going to take a photo but instead I've fallen a sleep till I've reached into the Chinese Airspace where it's early afternoon in China while it's morning in Europe. In order to tribute my Top 10 aircraft shots for this year, I have to include this one on-board China Airlines.

5: I'm taller than a plane!
EasyJet G-EZAP Airbus A319 taken 10th April 2018.
I don't think I've done one of these before. If you are flying from London Gatwick, UK in North Terminal, you can walk up the bridge & take photos of a plane down below.

4: Goodnight from Russia
China Airlines at the Russian Airspace taken 15th September 2018.
After amazing trip from Tokyo Narita, Japan I went back to London Gatwick, UK from Taipei, Republic of China. As I mentioned about the cabin lights dimmed in long haul flights China Airlines is one of them for their Airbus A350's. Taken in the International Airports in Russia at the Eastern Siberia of Asia, it was time to sleep after 5 hours in the flight from Taipei.

3: Great planes of London
CityJet EI-RJU British Aerospace Avro RJ85 taken 27th May 2018.
During my May 2018 visit to London City, UK, this has been my request for runway 28 to be in used with the city of London in the background, clouds with sun rising from the clouds of God and seeing the River Thames. CityJet seeing on final before the sunset makes the city look beautiful. Of course when it's the best of British, the aircraft makes The best of British Aerospace aircraft.

2: Smokey jumbo
Cargolux Italia LX-OCV Boeing 747-400F taken 7th February 2018.
Amsterdam, The Netherlands is the best for spotting depending which runway the airport is using. I have couple of good touchdowns with smoke on the runway so for that reason I've picked this one. Cargolux Italia Boeing 747-400 touched down. This has been the leased popular view on my social media sites so this is why it's at number two.

1: The Golden 747
Martinair PH-MPS Boeing 747-400F taken 7th February 2018.
One of the final spotting shots in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and one of my favorite 2018 shots ever. Why? this was taken during the sunset at sub-zero temperatures at -8 with the sun blocking the clouds turning golden look while the Martinair Cargo Boeing 747-400F was on final approach.

That's my top 10 for 2018 this year has been fantastic & hope 2019 we will see what goes on.

All Nippon Airlines - Star Wars

Since 2015, Disney & Lucasfilm released a brand new Star Wars movie continuing after the original trilogy where we seen Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia gotten older "RI.P. Carrie Fisher 1956-2016" after Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awaken is a huge success merchandises are everywhere, so what does it means to have Star Wars on an airline?

Because in Japan, Star Wars has been so much popular since Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope was released on theaters, the Japanese want to start on promoting Star Wars not just by merchandises, but on airlines. Yes airlines! Since 1998, All Nippon Airways a.k.a ANA introduced a brand new special livery before Star Wars Episode I - Phantom Menace was released. The first special livery introduced was Pokemon.

Back in the 1998, Pokemon was new to the Japanese anime in both Japan & international after the years gamers & fans collected Pokemon Trading Cards and Pokemon games on Nintendo Game Boy & Game Boy Colour and Nintendo 64. During that year of success, ANA introduced special livery called Pokemon Jet using their Boeing 747-400, Boeing 767-300 and one Boeing 777-300 JA754A.
Each of these aircraft types have different Pokemon theme and some Pokemon decorations in ANA hybrid. In May 2016, the last Pokemon Jet JA754A Boeing 777-300 was retired by removing Pokemon livery & changed to ANA livery.

As ANA in recent years retired their Boeing 747-400, Boeing 767's & Boeing 777 are now in ANA livery, it was time for the airline to have a brand new special livery with Star Wars.

And so today ANA has four aircraft in Star Wars special livery so from my photos I've only seen one in Tokyo Narita if I see more of the Star Wars livery, I'll be updating the blog in the future

Boeing 767-300ER - R2-D2/BB-8

JA604A one of the later Boeing 767 aircraft built in 2002 with R2-D2 on one side and BB-8 on the other in different colours of the Star Wars logo. Painted in November 2015 before the released of Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Boeing 777-200 - C-3PO

JA743A delivered in 2013 in full ANA livery till November 2017 when ANA painted in C-3PO making 3PO as the character of the aircraft.

Boeing 777-300ER - BB-8

JA789A delivered in 2010 in full ANA livery till 2016 it was painted in BB-8 which is a brand new Star Wars character. If I was BB-8 or 3PO in the Star Wars Universe, I would with I could fly as an aircraft.

Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner - R2-D2

JA873A delivered in 2015 in full R2-D2 livery from Boeing. Of course everybody knows R2-D2 since the original trilogy who's always been like a sidekick to 3PO, going on combat in space so you get the point.

JA873A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner delivered in 2015 taken 13th September 2018.
And their you have it my only complaint about ANA there is no Darth Vader livery I would love to see because he is my favorite Star Wars character I'm sure all the Star Wars fans out there wish it should happen.

Aviation in Tokyo Narita, Japan September 2018 - Freighter

Final blog for my adventure in Tokyo Narita, Japan featuring freighters from all over the world & locals. Their isn't a lot of freighters I've seen out their, their is some important ones I want to see.

Nippon Cargo Airlines JA14KZ Boeing 747-8 delivered in 2013 taken 12th September 2018.
Nippon Cargo Airlines is a Japanese freighter in Kansai, Naha and and Tokyo Narita. Most focused airport for Nippon Cargo Airlines is Hong Kong, China and Anchorage, USA operating their cargo all over the world using Boeing 747.

UPS N130UP Boeing 767-300F delviered in 1996 taken 12th September 2018.
UPS operates from Shanghai in China, Clark in the Philippines and two US flights to Louisville and Ontario depending on the fleets. At this stage when I've seen new UPS planes their are Boeing 767-300ER while other airports in Japan could be McDonnell Douglas MD-11 & other big range aircraft.

Air Hong Kong B-LDC Airbus A300-600F delivered in 2004 taken 12th September 2018,
As I've seen this in Taipei, Taiwan Air Hong Kong a DHL partnership operates Tokyo Narita from Hong Kong, China using the old Airbus A300 with some are newish from 2004.

All Nippon Airways JA8362 Boeing 767-300F delivered in 1997 taken 13th September 2018.
ANA Cargo part of All Nippon Airways operates twelve Boeing 767-300ER with Japan & worldwide to Southern Asia. Also All Nippon Airways will be expecting their two Boeing 777F will expect to arrive in 2019.

FedEx N603FE McDonnell Douglas MD-11 delivered in 1991 taken 13th September 2018.
FedEx still has the old McDonnell Douglas MD-11 even DC-10 "also known as MD-10" All FedEx aircraft  operates Tokyo Narita from all over the world with various fleets. I choose the photo of my choice because we don't see MD-11 these days back in Europe "Apart Lufthansa Cargo" so this is a tribute. Other FedEx planes I only seen most are Boeing 777.
Lufthansa Cargo D-ALFB Boeing 777F delivered in 2013 taken 13th September 2018.
Lufthansa does not operate passenger service to Tokyo Narita only Tokyo Haneda and Osaka Kansai. Lufthansa Cargo operates Tokyo Narita only from Frankfurt, Germany using Boeing 777F or possibly McDonnell Douglas MD-11.

Polar Air Cargo N452PA Boeing 747-400F delivered in 2000 taken 12th September 2018.
And finally Polar Air Cargo a DHL partnership only operates two US flights to Tokyo Narita from Anchorage in Alaska and Cincinnati in Northern Kentucky using Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 747-8.

And that's the end. Yes the end of my adventure of aircraft spotting in Tokyo Narita Airport it's fantastic seeing Asian airliners I rarely seen in Europe. I hope you've enjoyed seeing these aviation photos with couple to come in different topic till we see what the future holds on visiting Japan again in the future.

Aviation in Tokyo Narita, Japan September 2018 - Special liveries

Next up in Tokyo Narita, Japan is special liveries on Japanese airliners and foreign airliners. For list, I'm exuding All Nippon Airways which will be in a different blog apart from one because ANA has a history on special liveries that will be in the next blog. This will be the same for Japan Airlines.

Japan Airlines JA708J Boeing 777-200 delivered in 2004 taken 11th September 2018.
As part of Oneworld Alliance, Japan Airlines has a special livery with big Oneworld logo on the fuselage. Oneworld doesn't have the best special livery compare Star Alliance and SkyTeam.

China Airlines B-18007 Boeing 777-300ER delivered in 2016 taken 11th September 2018.
China Airlines has few special liveries on Airbus A350, Boeing 747-400 and this one Boeing 777-300 in Boeing Dreamliner special livery. This one is a lucky one where this is a Boeng 777 aircraft in Boeing Dreamliner livery pushing back in Tokyo Narita on flight back to Taipei, Republic of China "Taiwan."

Austrian Airlines OE-LPF Boeing 777-200 new to Varig in 2001 ex PP-VRB taken 12th September 2018.
Austrian Airlines operates daily to Tokyo Narita from Vienna, Austria sending out Boeing 777. When I was a sleep, the aircraft departed Vienna with a special livery called 60 Years Flying painted in May 2018.

Thai Air Asia X HS-XTD Airbus A330-300 new to Dragonair in 2006 ex B-HWJ taken 13th September 2018.
Another Air Asia aircraft but this time from Thai Air Asia X. This special livery is based on Lotte World a theme park and outdoor amusement park from South Korea. Lotte World is a knockoff version of Disney World with no characters from Disney just Korean mascots called Lotty and Lorry a Korean version Mickey Mouse in my opinion. As far as flights to, Thai Air Asia X operates from Bangkok, Thailand using Airbus A330.

Scandinavian Airlines OY-KBM Airbus A340-300 delivered in 2002 taken 13th September 2018.
Scandinavian Airlines operates daily from Copenhagen, Denmark only using Airbus A340-300. This visitor you see is Star Alliance special livery as part of that membership.

Delta Air Lines N175DZ delivered in 1999 taken 13th September 2018.
Similar to Star Alliance, Delta Air Lines I've seen arrives from Manila, Philippines in SkyTeam livery.

China Eastern Airlines B-6635 Airbus A320 delivered in 2010 taken 18th September 2018.
This one was a lucky shot after takeoff. What we have here is China Eastern Airlines in Shanghai Disneyland Resort livery with blue looking background, Disney Castle at the rear and Mickey & Minnie Mouse at the front. This is to promote by China Eastern Airlines for tourism to visit Shanghai Disneyland  where you see this Airbus A320 departing Tokyo Narita to Shanghai, China.

Cathay Pacific B-HNK Boeing 777-300 delivered in 1999 taken 13th September 2018.
Cathay Pacific with a special colours called Spirit of Hong Kong around the fuselage.

All Nippon Airways JA806A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner delivered in 2012 taken 13th September 2018.
Finally All Nippon Airways has variety of  Boeing 787 brand on the fuselage and we got a special one on the separate blog to ANA. If you like to see more special liveries for ANA, most of them that I will feature on a separate blog are based in Tokyo Haneda.

That's the special livery I've seen in Tokyo Narita. Most of the mare fantastic so I'm glad I've seen them. We have a final Tokyo Narita blog on freighters.

Aviation in Tokyo Narita Japan September 2018 - Foreign

Next is foreign airliners in Tokyo Narita, Japan from both Terminal 1 & 2 with details on the airline destinations when serving Narita Airport. I'm excluding the special livery for foreign visitors in this part where I'll feature another part of my Aviation in Tokyo Narita Japan September 2018 series. This is just for airliners I've seen that will not include airliners I've not seen so don't be annoyed if their is no information.

Air India VT-NAC Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner delivered in 2017 taken 10th September 2018.
Air India use their Boeing 787-7 Dreamliner for operations from Delhi, India.

Philippine Airlines uses Airbus A330 and Airbus A321 with only two flights from Manila and Cebu in the Philippines.

United Airlines N73299 Boeing 737-800 delivered in 2005 former Continental Air Lines taken 13th September 2018.
United Airlines uses Boeing 737 to Japan? Yes because not only United Airlines uses their larger aircraft from Los Angeles or New York. United Airlines daily operates their Boeing 737-800 direct from Guam, USA which is roughly almost a six hour flight to Japan. The photo I took is not the best because I arrived at the wrong time from my hotel each time I see it. By the time when I was in Japan, United Airlines flight for Guam was either delayed or cancelled in all flights.

Korean Air Lines HL7630 Boeing 747-8 delivered in 2015 taken 13th September 2018.
Depending where you are flying from Korean Air Lines operates daily in Terminal 2 from three airports from South Korea which are Busan, Jeju and Seoul Incheon. Interesting the airline also operates from Tokyo to Honolulu, USA which my guessing a 1-stop flight from Seoul, South Korea. Depending what aircraft type where the airline flies from because Korean Air Lines uses the new Boeing 747-8 for Seoul-Tokyo Narita-Honolulu, Airbus A330 and Boeing 737-800 between Japan & South Korea.

Air China B-5918 Airbus A330-200 delivered in 2013 taken 13th September 2018.
Air China operates six flights from China in Bejing, Chengdu, Dalian, Shanghai, Tianjin and Xining with various aircraft types from Boring 737 to Boeing 747 or Airbus A330. You'll see Air China every single day using various aircraft types in Tokyo Narita.
S7 Airlines VQ-BET Airbus A320 delivered in 2009 taken 13th September 2018.
S7 Airlines operates Tokyo Narita daily where this photo is taking to Vladivostok, Russia from the Russian Far East of Asia in Siberia using their Airbus A320 while other flights for S7 Airlines I have not seen.

Aircalin F-OJSE Airbus A330-200 delivered in 2002 taken 11th September 2018.
I've seen a couple of French airliners from Overseas France so this first French airliner Aircalin arrived from Nouméa, New Caledonia locating at the South Pacific near the coast of Australia.

Air Tahit Nui F-OJTN Airbus A340-300 new to Canada 3000 Airlines in 2001 ex C-GZIA taken 11th September 2018.
And we have Air Tahit Nui from Fa'a'a, French Polynesia in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean. The airline uses five Airbus A340-300 with news from the airline Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will be replacing the A340 next year.

Air Seoul HL8281 Airbus A321 delivered in 2013 as Asiana Airlines taken 13th September 2018.
Air Seoul owned by Asiana Airlines is South Koreans low-cost carrier with six Airbus A321 with flights from Seoul and Jeju, South Korean to flights within Asia to Japan, Hong Kong & Macau in China, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia also flight to the American territory in Guam.

KLM PH-BVF Boeing 777-300 delivered in 2011 taken 13th September 2018.
KLM operates daily flights to Tokyo Narita from Amsterdam, The Netherlands also popular for connection to KLM Cityhopper flights for airliners don't fly long haul. Air France-KLM offers great opportunity from big airports or regional airports. KLM primary flies to Tokyo Narita only using Boeing 777 either 200 or 300 series sometimes see in KLM Asia livery.

China Airlines B-18307 Airbus A330-300 delivered in 2005 taken 12th September 2018.
China Airlines operates daily flights from Taipei and Kaohsiung, Republic of China "Taiwan" and Honolulu, USA with continue flight back to Taiwan. For spotting reasons, China Airlines sends out Boeing 747 & Boeing 777 and Airbus A330-300 & Airbus A350-900 when coming to Japan.

Aeroflot VQ-BEK Airbus A330-300 delivered in 2010 taken 10th September 2018.
Aeroflot operates everyday from the Eastern European side in Moscow Sheremetyevo, Russia only using Airbus A330-300 so you will see various Russian airliners from Siberia & Eastern Europe side in Japan.
Delta Air Lines N703DN Boeing 777-200 delivered in 2009 taken 13th September 2018.

Delta Air Lines is interesting because their are five flights from the United States an two flights within Asia from Tokyo Narita which they are Manila, Philippines and Singapore I'm not sure if it's a one-stop service or not. When you see Delta Air Lines in Narita, they send out Boeing 767 and Boeing 777 at Terminal 2.

Vietnam Airlines VN-A888 Airbus A350-900 delivered in 2015 taken 12th September 2018.
Vietnam Airlines uses Airbus A350 from what I saw at Terminal 2 from three flights from Vietnam in Da Nang, Haoni and Ho Chi Minh City.

EVA Airways B-16740 Boeing 777-300ER delivered in 2017 taken 14th September 2018.
Like China Airlines competitor, EVA Airways operates in Tokyo Narita from the same destinations from Taipei and Kaohsiung, Republic of China "Taiwan" unlike other EVA Airways I've seen in Taipei, this is the first shot I took in EVA Airways brand new livery.

Finnair OH-LWG Airbus A350-900 delivered in 2016 taken 11th September 2018.
Finnair is like the main hub for customers want to travel to Japan from Helsinki, Finland via a flight of your origin. Because of OneWorld Alliance, Finnair is popular for connecting flights for example flying with British Airways or Finnair from London Heathrow, UK via Helsinki, Finland to connect to Finnair flight to your final destination to Japan. Same for Japan Airlines. In Tokyo Narita believe it or not, you might see two Finnair aircraft now & again using Airbus A350-900.

AirAsia X PK-XRC Airbus A330-300 new to Dragonair in 2005 ex B-HWF taken 10th September 2018.
Their are other franchise to AirAsia X with same livery but different name. Their is an Indonesia AirAsia X which is this one, and Thai AirAsia X from Thailand. Their are also a lot  of Air Asia franchises I won't go through them all. On the list I don't see this Indonesian brand Air Asia X in Tokyo Narita so could this be operated by Thai AirAsia X?

Alitalia EI-EJK Airbus A330-300 delivered in 2011 taken 10th September 2018.

Alitalia operates two aircraft a day from Milan Malpensa, Italy and Rome Fiumicino, Italy using Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 depending where of these aircraft are based at.
