Aircraft from passengers to freight


As planes gets older, it needs to go i.e. withdrawn for scrap or transform into freight. As I done a blog about old Airbus A320's why it needs to be scrapped, I will take a look at my photos from planes that were use for passengers and freight. So for that we have to go back in time for my collection.

As Boeing 737 Classics reach at the end of their life for passengers depending what year these planes were built I think the rules if planes are 15 years old or more these planes have to be withdrawn from the airline to their storage place till the final decision to scrap it or turn into freight. When I was in Catania, Italy I was boarding Air Malta flight to Malta where I spot TNT OO-TNQ a 1998 Boeing 737-400 new to Aeroflot VP-BAM this is a later Classic series when the 737 Next Generation become popular.

Then we go a little bit older a 26 year old Boeing 737-300 from Atlantic Airways G-JMCT new to Philippine Airlines ex EI-BZH from 1990. This might have been my last shot of Atlantic Airways for now because when this was taken in Bournemouth, UK in July 2014 I heard Atlantic Airways ended their service in Bournemouth.

I already mentioned this one a couple of years ago. I'll refresh your memory. This is a Boeing 747-400 Combi from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines around 1989-1992 area. 747 Combi is mixed between half passengers on the front of the aircraft and cargo at the back of the aircraft there are also Boeing 737-200 Combi I think somewhere in Canada are still in use. However news from KLM they will withdrawl their Boeing 747-400 including Combi in 2018 depending on the age.

Some aircraft were not new for passengers some are new only for freight like we see these days a Boeing 747-8, Boeing 777, Airbus A330. Martinair for example use to have McDonnell Douglas MD-11 brand new from McDonnell Douglas around 1995. Recently Martinair has withdrawn their MD-11 which is a shame because it's not that old yet. The reason why Martinair did it, is because to run a MD-11 from Martinair is very expensive to maintain, lack of parts from recycled MD-11's and fuel. That also could be the reason why KLM got rid of their MD-11 in the first place. I think FedEx, UPS and Lufthansa Cargo is the main airliners in the world that use cargo use to this day. It's still not too late to get many MD-11's as you can.

Then we come to Airbus. FedEx currently has 68 Airbus A300-600 in the fleet it's just the same deal old A300 even A310 gets old, it turns into freight so no comment ask. The shot I took is a 1990 Airbus A300 that was new to Egyptair in 1990 so I could say a very late A300 series as Airbus A320 had more orders & focus on the future when A330 & A340 was being planned & built in the early 90's.

And finally we come to Boeing 757's. Depending on the age, most 99% here in Europe are from British Airways DHL European Air Transport and DHL Air almost own every ex British Airways Boeing 757's some are with FedEx. My recent photo is a 1986 Boeing 757 ex British Airways same registration in Malta. There is also a Boeing 767 freight I don't have at the monument I'll keep a lookout in the future. I also have a Boeing 777 freight I decide on this blog is one 1 photo per different countries where I been.
